Infrastructure Update: Playground

CREATING AN OUTDOOR SPACE WHERE LEARNING & CURIOSITY ARE MAXIMISED

At NAG, we are constantly developing ways to mobilise and maximise investments in order to improve the quality of Early Childhood Development (ECD) services in marginalised communities.

We have identified the need to help ECD centres create stimulating outdoor environments as children currently have very limited opportunities for varied play outdoors.

Through funding from the Impande Foundation in Norway we have recently completed our first pilot playground. We have emphasised exploration, creativity and fantasy play and included elements to accommodate all age groups.

The water and sand table allow children to explore different textures, and allows them to measure and experiment.
The big weaving board promotes coordination and working together.
The activity board is great for young children and helps them learn how things open and close by pushing, pulling, sliding and unlatching. Great for fine motor development finger dexterity.
The cube is like a den where children can take refuge and enjoy a cosy space with their friends.

Covid-19 update

We need your help

We are currently working to support ECD centres to comply with the process set out by DSD for reopening but we need your help.  Centres urgently need water tanks, cleaning materials and personal protective equipment (PPE). Partner with us or make a contribution to reach ECD centres that do not have any water source and those who are not funded by government.

Network and Helpdesk

It is possible to improve access and quality of ECD when communities, government and the private sector work together

WHAT WE DO:

·         Facilitate municipal ECD Network meetings to support flow of information between grassroots ECD services, government and stakeholders

·         Provide a help desk to assist ECD centres with registration and compliance to improve child protection and access to government subsidies.
