DUPLO to remote and under resourced ECD Centres

During 2021 Impande distributed DUPLO play and learn boxes to 150 ECD centres in WM Mandela Municipality in partnership with to Zero2Five.  After seeing the difference DUPLO made at ECD centres that had nothing, we engaged with Care for Education to scale up the project. To our delight they shared our vision of reaching remote and under resourced centres and funded additional DUPLO boxes for other areas.

In March this year a container of 600 DUPLO boxes arrived.  We have started distribution and training through our learning groups in UGU District.  We have also earmarked boxes for unfunded centres in Ntabankulu Municipality in Eastern Cape and Umzimkhulu Municipality in KZN.  The 600 boxes will reach 400 ECD centres impacting over 12000 children.

Impande will roll out the Play and Learn training to the centres that receive DULPO. This month training is taking place across our 30 learning groups in UGU District. During the training practitioners look at how DUPLO can be used to support a wide range of early learning domains. A lot of time is spent playing and practicing DUPLO activities that help children to understand about direction, location, position, numbers, quantity, sequence, attributes, dimension, size and similarities, differences and much more.

Thank you to Care for Education for making this project possible.

Covid-19 update

We need your help

We are currently working to support ECD centres to comply with the process set out by DSD for reopening but we need your help.  Centres urgently need water tanks, cleaning materials and personal protective equipment (PPE). Partner with us or make a contribution to reach ECD centres that do not have any water source and those who are not funded by government.

Network and Helpdesk

It is possible to improve access and quality of ECD when communities, government and the private sector work together

WHAT WE DO:

·         Facilitate municipal ECD Network meetings to support flow of information between grassroots ECD services, government and stakeholders

·         Provide a help desk to assist ECD centres with registration and compliance to improve child protection and access to government subsidies.
